Biotec Sys and UNIBO, with the support of the Emilia Romagna Region, collaborated from 1987 to 1999 in the genetic improvement of fish species destined both for the repopulation of natural environments and for food production.
The study of genetic diversity was based on immunological and immunogenetic parameters within the populations and made it possible to evaluate their ability to adapt to both the constantly changing natural environment and intensive farming conditions.
It has been shown that a reduced genetic diversity and a low immunological capacity can lead to a poor possibility of adaptation and to a lower suitability of fish populations to be introduced both into open environments and in farming conditions.
Since 1992, thanks to the combination of experience in genetics and aquaculture, our team has been providing consulting services to design, manage and optimize the breeding programs of the main Italian producer of salmonid eggs.
